Killermont Parks Development Group

Next meeting - 2nd October 2008, 7pm Killermont Parish Church (Forum Stage)

Aerial image from Google MapsKillermont Parks Development Group was set up in September 2006 with the aim of improving King George V Park which lies between Rannoch Drive, Speirs Road, Albert Drive and Kessington Road, in the Bearsden area of East Dunbartonshire. New page added showing plans for the park

Shortly after we started, East Dunbartonshire Council offered us a significant level of funding which has been used to kick start the project and allowed us to install street lighting, extra benches and bins as well as some new play equipment.

Bird food

With help from Killermont Primary and Boclair Academy we have managed to plant new bushes and liven up the plants in keeping with East Dunbartonshire's Bio Diversity plans.

To further encourage more indigenous species to grow and in turn encourage the return of small wildlife, bird and insects we have also changed the mowing routine. As the summer progresses, grass will not be cut around the outer edge of the play area, allowing wild flowers and meadow grass to grow.

This will be cut towards the end of the growing season, once the flowers have seeded successfully, so hopefully next year (2009) we'll see an increase in the meadow flowers growing.

Our next big plan is to work towards development of the disused tennis courts on Rannoch Drive (visible in the aerial image as the large pinkish square). These plans are now advancing with offers of funding now making it possible for us to see the potential in building a tarmacadamed multi use games area which will support basketball, tennis, football and other ball sports.

Anyone interested in what's going on, or wishing to make contact with us can do so via our Forum. Here you will also find information about future meetings and notes from previous ones. There is no need to register at this time, although any abuse of the forum will result in this requirement being imposed. The Forum is reactively moderated.

As part of our future development we've set up a short survey to try and assess what everyone wants for the Parks in this area. If you missed the popup survey or closed the window before completion you can click here to fill in our survey. Please encourage as many people as possible to fill this in
